European Tour - 2018 Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open Preview
Posted on July 11 2018
The European Tour returns to East Lothian, Scotland for the 35th edition of the Scottish Open. Last year, Rafa Cabrera Bello defeated Callum Shinkwin to earn his third career European Tour victory. This year, he’ll be defending his title against another incredible field in this elite event, which often serves as a tune up for the following week’s Open Championship at Carnoustie. Notables in the field include past Scottish Open champions Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson, as well as former Open champions Padraig Harrington, Ernie Els, and Darren Clarke.
Gullane GC will host this event for the second time in its history, the first since 2015 when Rickie Fowler won the title. After a 13-year hiatus, the Scottish open has been played every year since 1986. With the weather forecast predicting highs averaging 18 degrees Celsius, fans and players should be treated to great conditions for golf.
Players to Watch:
Ian Poulter: Steady results in his last four starts have his game in prime position going into the season’s third major next week. Still without a major on his resume, look for Ian to put forth his best effort with a strong showing this week.
Russell Knox: A win last week after a runner-up in France makes him the hottest European Tour player in the field. The familiar homeland crowds should serve as a boost to keep his incredible run of golf going.
