European Tour - 2018 GolfSixes Preview
Posted on May 02 2018
The European Tour’s GolfSixes event is a fan favorite, and is back for the 2nd edition. Last year, Team Denmark, which included Lucas Bjerregaard and Thorbjørn Olesen, defeated Team Australia in the finals to become the event’s inaugural champions. The duo will return to Centurion Golf Club to defend their title against 15 other teams, each of whom will play in group format before the top two in each group battle in the elimination rounds.
The format is unique to any other professional tournament in the world: the teams compete on a modified six-hole course. The players are mic’d up, there is music and pyrotechnics throughout, and each hole tests a certain skill, including the implementation of a shot clock. Surely an exciting test of golf, fun for players and fans alike.
Teams to Watch:
Team Australia: Wade Ormsby is having a solid year thus far, currently 25th in the Race to Dubai standings. His teammate, Sam Brazel is having a decent season, and this could be the week he springboards into a win with his fellow countryman. Look for them to be a factor again this year.
Team England: Matt Wallace and Eddie Pepperell each have a victory this year on the European Tour, and are playing in their home country. The team format, coupled with the love they’ll receive from the hometown fans, should make them contenders throughout the tournament.
