PGA Tour - 2018 A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier Preview
Posted on July 08 2018
The PGA Tour returns to West Virginia for the 8th edition of A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier, also known as the Greenbrier Classic. Last year, 2017 Rookie of the Year Xander Schaufelle captured his first PGA Tour victory by one stroke over Robert Streb. This year, he’ll return to defend his title against an elite field, including former Greenbrier champions Danny Lee and Stuart Appleby. Other notables includes multiple major champions Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson, as well as PGA Tour winners Sean O’Hair and Ryan Moore.
The Old White TPC at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, has been the tournament’s only host course in its relatively short existence. The only time the tournament was not played was in 2016 after a severe flood in West Virginia damaged the course, forcing its cancellation.
Players to Watch
Robert Streb: He’s finished runner-up in this event the last two times it was played, including a playoff loss where he had to putt with a wedge during the final nine holes of regulation. The course clearly suits him, and a good week could certainly turn his season around.
Bubba Watson: It’s been quite the turnaround for the two-time Masters champ. From contemplating retirement to winning three times so far this season, including a win two weeks ago, he’s by far the hottest player in the field. A win this week would put him in the conversation for Player of the Year honors.
