2018 AT&T Byron Nelson
The PGA Tour pays tribute to one of the greatest golfers of all time this week at the AT&T Byron Nelson. Last year, Billy Horschel defeated Jason Day in a sudden-death playoff for his fourth career Tour victory. He’s back this year to defend his title against a field that includes former Byron Nelson champions Sergio Garcia, Steven Bowditch, and Rory Sabbatini. Other notables include major winners and Texas natives Jordan Spieth and Jimmy Walker, along with former world number one Adam Scott.
Trinity Forest Golf Club will host this tournament for the first time after a long stint at TPC at Las Colinas. The tournament was first played in 1944, and boasts an impressive list of past champions including the event’s namesake, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
Players to Watch
Jimmy Walker: The 2016 PGA Champion surged at last week’s PLAYERS Championship into a runner-up finish. A resident of Boerne, Texas, the hometown vibes coupled with his recent success should help him improve from a 2nd place finish in 2015.
Jordan Spieth: Despite a rough end to his round on Sunday, the fourth-ranked player in the world is still a force to be reckoned with. He first played in this event in 2010 at age 16; with two wins already in his home state, victory number 12 is well within his grasp.
